We are proud to say that our venue for the PressPlay Film Festival 2019 is the Alamo Drafthouse in Las Colinas, Texas! Founded in 1997 in the heart of Texas, Alamo Drafthouse has become notorious for being passionate about filmmaking and cinema etiquette. As one of the theaters for South by Southwest, one of the most popular film festivals in world, it is the perfect venue for die hard film fanatics and filmmakers. This venue will allow our filmmakers to show their work to an amazing film audience. we look forward to hosting our festival here in October! The Regular Deadline for submissions is May 31st! “What will future scholars see when they study us, a portrait of women today?” - Mona Lisa Smile We’ll tell you what - women who are resilient and unapologetically opinionated, outspoken, and passionate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’d like to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay by highlighting some of our favorite female characters from film: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 1. Character: Frida, played by Selma Hayek in “Frida” What we love: She doesn’t take no for an answer, and her status as a woman doesn’t slow her down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 2. Character: Polly Gray, played by Helen McCrory in “Peaky Blinders” What we love: she’s strong, resilient, and doesn’t put up with anyone’s shit 3. Character: Peik Lin, played by Awkwafina in “Crazy Rich Asians” What we love: she owns her sexuality, quick wit, and is supportive of her friend Rachel by helping her realize her own strength and power ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ 4. Character: Issa, played by Issa Rae in “Insecure” What we love: she seeks to find her voice in her career, explores her sexuality, and confronts casual racism and sexism 5. Character: Offred, played by Elisabeth Moss in “A Handmaid’s Tale” What we love: she’s at the forefront of resistance that’s represented by sexism and female oppression but fights to no avail 6. Character: Katherine Ann Watson, played by Julia Roberts in “Mona Lisa Smile” What we loved: she’s opinionated, teaches her female students to challenge convention and to find their own truth and happiness. 7.
